I am a great fan, and sometimes investor, of Broadway Theater, whether it be a Musical, Drama, Comedy or any alternative form. We go at least once a week and see almost everything that is playing. We used to invest in many shows but have narrowed our selections to try harder to turn a profit. It is harder than we thought at the start.
We also have always gone to many Charity Benefits. A lot of these support Theater charities such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids and the Actors Fund. Lately, many have drawn us into the Dance World. We have gone to Benefits supporting the NYC Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Dancers Respond to Aids, Career Transition to Aids. I tell you about these experiences because the Dance World allows you to experience a diversity of types of dance that most of us can't even imagine. It's not all Swan Lake and the Nutcracker. Although they are beautiful.
One of the thrills, in attending the Benefits, that support the Dance Companies, is the opportunity to meet the wonderful dancers. You learn just how bright, charming and lovely they are as people. I urge you to try if it if you haven't already. If Benefits are not something that you are ready for, just buy a ticket to a performance. There are many Dance companies all over the city: Paul Taylor, Joyce, Cedar Lake, Alvin Ailey. Special performances at Lincoln Center and City Center. Give it a shot, instead of a movie, as something different for a night out on a date.
